  3. The Wikipedia entry for ELW mentions that he practiced law in both New York and Washington, but gives no dates. If Gary shows up, he should be able to provide more detail than anybody would want, since his name shows up prominently in the footnotes at Wikipedia.

  6. Is Marian E Taylor a male or a female? (The male name is usually spelled Marion, but who knows what parents are thinking. them or now.) If Marian is female, it is interesting that she is an assistant clerk in the branch? Or was that something allowed then?

  7. I don’t know this Marian E. Taylor, but I do know that until the 1990-something Handbook casually required all clerks to be priesthood holders, my aunt Evelyn Taylor was the membership clerk in her Poplar Grove ward in Salt Lake, and had been for several years. She had to be released because of that handbook rule.

    My mother went to high school with Marion D. Hanks. Once, in connection with their work on the newspaper or year book, Mom asked MDH whether he spelled his name with an “a” or an “o.” She said he told her, in disgusted tones, “My name is MariON, not MaryANN!” She never had to ask again.

  9. My mother’s sister was named Marian, and my dad’s step-sister’s husband was named Marion. So I had an Aunt Marian and an Uncle Marion.

    And, the back-up goalie for the New York Rangers is a Finn, named Antti Raanta. I’m just waiting for the day when he nephews or nieces who call him Uncle Antti. (Sorry for the ridiculous threadjack.)

    Wonderful to have people like Gary around to answer questions about Wilkinson (or whatever comes up in the discussion of the day.) Thanks, Gary. I have never thought much about him and didn’t realize he lived outside Utah for so many years.
