How it started –

Salt Lake City, Utah, Sep 12, 1898

President Lorenzo Snow

Dear Brother –

As the members of the quorum of the 12 apostles are for once all together I shall be much pleased to have a sitting to-morrow at your convenience.

I am anxious to obtain a group and will use my best efforts to secure one that will be acceptable to you and the members of the church in all parts of the world.

Please name the time when it will be convenient if agreeable and we will not detain you long –

(Lorenzo Snow had just been ordained as president following the death of Wilford Woodruff. Rudger Clawson would be called within days to fill the 12th seat in the Quorum of Twelve)

  2. I love the diversity of facial hair and wish that would come back. Too many older men these days just have generic ‘grandpa’ beards.

  3. I’ve never thought of it that way, HokieKate, but you’re right — men used to have as much fun with their chins as we have with our heads, and wouldn’t it be monotonous if we were all alike!
