I want to bear my testimony. I know that the Book of Mormon is a divinely inspired record and that Joseph Smith was a true prophet of the living God. I am not ashamed to belong to the “Mormon” Church. I was baptized this year. I ask the prayers of the Saints in behalf of myself and family – Sadie Dance Hicks, Tex.

I have joined the Latter-day Saints; it will be three years in August. I am 73 years old, and so absent-minded. This is my first testimony. I love to do all I can for the Saints. If Joseph Smith’s history is true he certainly was a true prophet of God. “No man can do the miracles thou doest except God be with him.” I was about three days and nights so sick I could not sit up. Two elders administered to me, and in less than 20 minutes I felt as well as ever. – S.E. Myers, Va.

I will try to give in my testimony the best I can. I am surrounded by enemies of the gospel and have not the opportunity of hearing it preached. I know that it is true, and that it has been restored to earth again in its fullness. I am not ashamed of the gospel for it is the power of God unto salvation. – Luvenia M. Myers, Va.
Alabama.
I am so proud I can truthfully say I know that the gospel as taught by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is true and that Joseph Smith was a true prophet of the true God. I know that God does answer prayers as I have prayed to Him as no other poor woman has prayed before, I think, and the good Lord has heard and answered me. There are no Saints here except me and four of my children, and we are called “them Mormons.” But I am proud of the name and would like to say to all the world that I am not ashamed of the truth. – Mrs. Hattie L. Jacobs, Ala.

I have been a Latter-day Saint 17 years and for the last 15 years have lived with a family who are opposed to us. But I have never doubted the gospel, and in many ways have had occasion to rejoice, although I have not heard but one sermon in all these years. I do not have much more privilege than a convict, but I arise every morning a stronger Latter-day Saint. – Annie I. Stewart, Ala.
Arizona.
I wish to bear my testimony to the truth of the gospel in which so many thousands of righteous men and women are engaged. I know it is true, and that Joseph Smith was a true prophet of God. I have had my prayers answered dozens of times. Outside the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints I see nothing worth working for. – Arizona.
Arkansas.
I know that Joseph Smith was a prophet of the living God, and that through him the Kingdom of God is again established. I know, too, that the Book of Mormon is a divine record and that the elders are servants of the Lord. I am glad that I am a Latter-day Saint. I know that my testimony is true and I know that all may receive this testimony. – Ona Kagle, Ark.
—
I believe that Joseph Smith was a prophet of Jehovah and that the Book of Mormon is the divine word and that we have the true gospel with us today. I believe the elders are the servants of the Lord. I am a “Mormon.” I am not ashamed of the name, I love it. – Mrs. M.B. Haggard, Ark.

I bear my testimony to all the world and I know that it is true by the spirit of God also by witnessing miraculous healing. I know that the Book of Mormon is true; that this is the true and everlasting gospel, restored by the Lord and preached in its fullness in these latter times by a chosen people. I know by the spirit of God that Joseph Smith was His prophet called to be a wise counselor. He lived great and died great and great shall be his eternal reward. I bear this testimony in all soberness in the name of Jesus. – Minnie Haggard, Ark.
Florida.
I know that this is the true Church of Christ, and that Joseph Smith was a true prophet of God. When the elders are at our home I know they teach the true gospel. We are selling the Book of Mormon; have sold several. We are trying to spread the gospel. – N.J. Woodall, Fla.
—
I know this is the true Church of Christ for I have been healed when I could not sit up. I saw my mother healed when she had been sick seven years. I know that Joseph Smith was a true prophet of God. This is my testimony in the name of Jesus. Amen. – Mamie Woodall, Fla.
—
I know that this is the Church of Jesus Christ. I have a testimony that it is the Lord’s work, and have reasons to say this. My wife had been sick seven years when the elders came and administered to her. That night she had a good night’s rest, and next morning she arose hungry and ate a good breakfast. – E. Woodall, Fla.

I know that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is true, for I have been healed by the servants of God, and I have seen my sister healed when it looked like she could not live until the next morning. She was the first one up then, and went to church that day. I have seen my daughter healed, when she could not sit up. In 20 minutes she was sitting up, helping the elders and her sister sing. I know that Joseph Smith was a true prophet of God. This is my testimony in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen. – Vicy Woodall, Fla.

I hereby wish to testify that I know that the Book of Mormon is true. I became convinced of its inspired messages as I was reading it. I was baptized and confirmed and have had no reason to regret it; and whosoever does likewise, in sincerity of heart, will not regret it either. – Chas. Hicks, Sr., Fla.

I bear my testimony to the truth of the gospel. I investigated it for one year, and asked my heavenly Father on my bended knees to lead me in the right way; and because I was led into the right way I do know that Joseph Smith was a true prophet of God. That is why I know that it is true. – Mrs. J.R. Terrell, Fla.
Georgia.
I am a Latter-day Saint and I thank God that I am, for I know if there is a Church on earth that is right it is the Latter-day Saints. I had been a Baptist for about forty years, but did not belong to any church when the “Mormon” elders came When I heard them preach and expound their belief, it just pleased me, and I know it is the true Church of God, and that Joseph Smith was a true prophet of God. – Miranda C. Starks, Ga.
Illinois.
In 1904, Christmas day I was baptized by Elder Edward H. Hale. I am the only one of my faith in this city, but I feel proud to be called a “Mormon.” I have a living testimony that the gospel is true, and I know Joseph Smith was a true prophet of God. The persecution I endure here in the very city where our beloved prophet was martyred is strong proof to me that the gospel is true. – Mrs. Julia Erwin, Carthage, Ill.
Iowa.
I thank you ever so much for Liahona The Elders’ Journal. I think it is just splendid. I know that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is the true Church of our Heavenly Father, and that Joseph Smith was His prophet, and that the Book of Mormon is a divinely inspired record. I know these things by the whisperings of the spirit and the gift of the Holy Ghost. – Mary Roba, Ia.
Indiana.
I know that the Church set up in the latter days is the Church of Christ, and that the Book of Mormon is true. I am the only one of my father’s family or relatives that belong to the Church. I do not mind being called a “Mormon,” for I know that they are God’s own people and that no greater prophet ever lived than Joseph Smith, except Jesus Christ. I was baptized August 26, 1906. – Mrs. Cleo Poynter, Ind.

I know without doubt that the latter-day gospel is true, and also that Joseph Smith was a prophet of the Lord, and that Jesus is the son of God. I am 58 years old and was baptized in the Church in 1904, and feel each day of my life greater faith to go on in the world. – S.E. Poynter, Ind.
A century on, there are wards and stakes and even temples in these states, a combination of conversions and outmigration of Latter-day Saints for education, military service, and careers, especially over the last 50 years.
It is interesting that the two themes in the testimonies are healings and the Book of Mormon.
