More brief testimonies from the “scattered Saints” of the early 20th century —
Colorado
Since you have granted investigators space to testify concerning the gospel I will do so. What the elders of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints are teaching is true. Indeed I have a testimony that this gospel is true, and I long for the time when I can embrace it in its fullness. It is the only means whereby man can be saved. I take the Liahona. May God speed it to many a home. – Mrs. Fred Knight, Colo.

Psalm 40:1. – I waited patiently for the Lord, and he inclined unto me and heard my cry. Your sister in the cause of truth. – Ollie Blitch, Fla.

To all who may read this: My testimony is this: I believe that the Church of Christ with its former organization, ordinances, gifts and spiritual power, has been re-organized on earth. Our son, John Hilton, was restored to health by the power of God, through the administration of the elders. He was able to arise immediately after being sick some weeks of a powerful fever, and after his nose and mouth had been bleeding several hours. Many others of our loved ones have been restored to health in the same way. – Susan E. Hill, Fla.

I believe in the restored gospel, and that Joseph Smith was a prophet of God. I often feel glad that this came in my time. I am 80 years old. I have been a member 11 years. – Sarah M. Henderson, Fla.
—
I am pleased at this opportunity to bear my testimony to the world. Since I read the Book of Mormon and was baptized 6 years ago, I have felt to know that Joseph Smith and his successors were and are true prophets of God, instruments in His hands to restore the only true gospel whereby man can be saved. – Loretta Henderson, Fla.

I know that God is the Eternal Father, and that the great latter-day work in which we are enlisted is verily His, and that Joseph Smith was a true prophet of the living God. – Melissa Henderson, Fla.

To whom it may concern: I wish hereby to bear testimony to the truth of the gospel as taught by the Latter-day Saints. I know that Joseph Smith was a prophet sent of God with a message of salvation to deliver unto men. – D.H. Arline, Fla.

Kind friends: I feel to add my testimony to the divinity of the doctrine of the Latter-day Saints, and I thank God that He has permitted me to live when I could have the chance of accepting it in the flesh. This is always my testimony. – Mrs. M.V. Arline, Fla.

Dear readers: I also wish to add my testimony to the truth of the gospel taught by the “Mormons.” I have been healed of sickness by its power a number of times, and many other reasons I could readily give if there were space. I know it is the true plan of salvation. – Josephine Arline, Fla.
Georgia
I will endeavor to give a faint idea how I know the “Mormon” Church to be the Church of Christ. I have been a zealous worshiper, but found the people only had a form of godliness and were far from right. I decided the good Lord would have to bring about a change. When I heard the “Mormons” the Spirit said to me: “That is the change you are expecting.” I asked the Lord to enlighten me concerning this doctrine, and received a testimony that it was true. – Susan Cooper, Ga.
—
This is my humble testimony: Realizing that there was but one true Church of Christ, I prayed that I might find the same. A messenger was promised in answer to my prayer, and two “Mormon” elders brought me the true message. It was difficult to believe the Book of Mormon at first, but in answer to prayer, I was assured it was an inspired record. – Martha J. Hoyt, Ga.
—
Through the knowledge I have received from my Heavenly Father, I know that the Bible is true, and I learn from it that a book was to come forth from the ground. I know that the Book of Mormon is true, and that Joseph Smith was a prophet of God, inspired to set up His Church and kingdom in these the last days. This I testify to in the name of Jesus Christ. – Mrs. Margaret Stanford, Ga.
—
I know the gospel is true. This Church is the only true one. The elders brought the gospel to my home. It blessed my home and saved my husband, and will save me if I but prove faithful to the end. I bear this testimony in the name of Jesus. Amen. – Mrs. Martha E. Parker, Ga.

I have been a member of the church 10 years, and I know it is the Church of Jesus Christ, and that the Book of Mormon is true, and that Joseph Smith was a prophet of God. As to the way I know this, it is by revelation to me direct. – See Matt. 16:17 and James 1:5. – Geo. J. Pittman, Ga.

I am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. I know it is the true church of Christ, that Joseph Smith was a true prophet of God, and that the Book of Mormon is true. I went to my Heavenly Father to know the truth. “When he, the Spirit of Truth is come, he will guide you into all truth.” He has led me to accept the true gospel, taught by the Latter-day Saints, and I rejoice in it. This is the testimony of a weak Saint. – Belle Pittman, Ga.

I have a testimony of the gospel of Jesus Christ and I thank my Heavenly Father that I was permitted to come to this earth at a time when we have a prophet to guide us. I can say without a doubt in my mind that I know that Joseph Smith was a prophet of God. The reason I can bear my testimony to this is because my Heavenly Father has blessed me in many ways for living up to the teachings of the prophet Joseph Smith. – Henry J. Paynter, Ind.

I am just a believer; have been investigating the Apostolic faith, and the Holiness, but did not find the desires of my heart till I found the Latter-day Saints’ doctrine as taught by the Utah people. I used to think I never could be one, but I am one of God’s humble children and am willing to follow where He leads me. I had a manifestation of His love and know I am accepted of Him. I am waiting patiently for the time to come to receive baptism. – Mrs. S.W. Smith, Kansas

I have been a believer in “Mormonism about eight years; have been a close observer of its teachings and principles for a short time. I have read the Book of Mormon partly through. I believe its teachings. I don’t believe it could have been written unless the writer had been inspired. I also believe that Joseph Smith was a true prophet of God, and I believe the gospel he put forth is the same that was taught by Jesus Christ while here on earth. – Minnie Ison, Ky.
—
By the spirit of God I know the gospel taught by the Latter-day Saints is indeed the gospel of Christ; and by obedience to its laws we can enjoy the same blessings as did the people in the other dispensation, when His gospel was on the earth. I have a testimony to say that Joseph Smith was a true prophet of God, and if there is any true church, it is the Latter-day Saints’. I was a long time in believing the gospel, but now I think it is true and wish I were where I could go to church every Sunday and take my children to Sunday school. I believe the Book of Mormon is the Word of God if there is any. – Lizer Lamoine, La.

I am glad I have the privilege of stating that I know that the gospel taught by the Latter-day Saints is true. I was two years in investigating it, and at the time was a member of the United Brethren church, from which I withdrew. I became a Latter-day Saint May 12, 1904, and I thank God that I made the change. Joseph Smith was a prophet of God, for no man could do the work he did of himself. – Reuben Vancuren, Mich.

I know from persona experience of the brotherly love of the Latter-day Saints and their never tiring labors to convert their sin stricken enemies. I know by the ring of the testimony of the elders from Zion that the Holy Spirit beareth witness of its truth. It is the blessed Holy Spirit of truth that reveals to us the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, and blesses us with knowledge, wisdom and love. – E.M. Parker, Mo.

I know the gospel is true and if I hold out faithful, I will be crowned with the prophets of old. I know Joseph Smith was a true prophet and that his words are as binding as the prophets’ of old. I pray the world may seek for light. I pay tithing and believe in the blessings promised. My soul is full; my wife was baptized on April 25th. – J.M. Melvin, Miss.

I know the church called the “Mormon” Church is the right one and the elders are true servants of the Master, for they handle the scripture like someone having authority. I have seen them administer to the sick who have been healed when their recovery seemed almost impossible. Since I entered the kingdom of God through baptism I am perfectly satisfied, and can read the scripture and see the light I could never see before. I am glad to be called a “Mormon.” – Mrs. J.H. Golden, Miss.

I bear testimony to you in the name of Jesus Christ that I know this is the true Church and that Joseph Smith was a prophet of God. I know, too, that the Book of Mormon is a divine record. If you ask me how I know, I refer you to Jas. 1:5, “If any man lack wisdom, let hm ask of God who giveth to all men liberally and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.” I asked the Lord and He revealed it to me through His Spirit. I bear this witness to all the world. – James H. Hodson, Jr., Miss.
