Gray spires that point into the blue,
Grand edifice it stands.
The builders sleep; peace be to them;
White robed, and folded hands.
Gray spires that point up to the stars;
Around their granite tips
A thousand prayers float every day
From faithful, trusting lips.
Gray spires that point up to God’s throne,
Great fingers mark the way
That leads into the shining sphere
Where glows heaven’s golden day.
