Wait, are they saying a washer cost a dollar?
A copper washer sounds to me like a disk with a hole in it, worth more than a plugged nickel, but less than a silver dollar. Good thing they had the picture.
A website inflation calculator indicates that $1 in 1926 equates to $14 and change today. I cannot imagine a washing machine that you could sell for that today. Even a drum and agitator on a stand with an attached wringer as is depicted would be hard to get at a price anywhere near $14. I would guess more like $75.
This setup is quite reminiscent of my grandmother’s machine as I have described it in earlier comments on related posts.
Since it is an electric company selling it, I assume the agitator and wringer are motorized. The wringer is a safety nightmare, but at least the agitator is on the lid where it would be hard to get caught in.
I’m guessing it’s electrical rates. I found an ad for a similar washing machine on sale in the ’20s for $80, so I doubt it’s that.

Electricity was 6-7 cents per kilowatt hour (kWh). Let’s round and say the average modern washing machine uses 800 watts and runs on a 30 minute cycle. That’s maybe 3 cents a load, or 30 loads of laundry for a dollar.
Sounds like my finger in the wind estimate of $75 was not out of line.I think your reasoning makes sense, but It does not read that way, and how do you offer a deal for one month specifically for washing clothes?
