  1. Or if you’re a trump supporter, you can fly the Russian flag!

(Sorry. You can delete this if you want. Maybe I blew your subtle point.)

  2. Always be a good American. Good advice.

Since neither Grant nor I — nor any other readers of this blog, I assume — care to cross the line and discuss politics here, I will only note that I just called the office of my senator and wondered when or if he was going to put out a statement condemning certain remarks today. The woman assured me that he was going to put out a statement supporting the intelligence community. Me: How about the Senator puts out a statement supporting the Constitution?

A Senator’s oath of office: “I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter: So help me God.”

It’s a little more extensive than the President’s oath of office, as given in the Constitution (Article II, section 1, clause 8): “I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the Office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my Ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States.”

  3. Y’all probably won’t believe me, but I scheduled this post back in January. I think I probably intended to schedule it for the Monday (that’s “old ad day”) closest to Flag Day, in June, and must have clicked the wrong box. But whatever happened, I scheduled this months ago, before I could possibly have had any overt political intent.

The Lord works in mysterious ways. Again.

  4. That’s serendipity for you. Still haven’t heard from the senator, or from the junior senator from your state, but I called my Republican congressman’s office to thank him for his strongly-worded patriotic statement.

    Always be a good American.
