Faith

I know the Father’s power,
Working through the sun and rain,
Will produce a flower.
When I go to sleep at night,
I know that I shall waken;

My faith is never shaken.
As I know that Christ arose,
After he in death had lain,

I can very easily hear this being sung in Primary! It gets its message across beautifully.
I must say, I like it a darn sight better than the current “faith” song in the Primary Children’s Songbook, which seems to conflate faith with knowledge in a way that undoes the work so very carefully done in Alma chapter 32 of his eponymous book.
Yes, I’m a doctrine crank, at least when it comes to lyrics in children’s songs. I feel like there are few things which could have a more lasting effect on the next generation than song lyrics, in terms of doctrinal understanding.
Now that they’ve announced that they’re accepting submissions for the new versions of the children’s songbook and hymnbook, I may need to put my money where my mouth is and come up with a tune for this or else give up my complaining forever…
S — I am submitting my children’s song about Faith that is based on Alma 32, hoping that it will help others as it has helped the children in my ward that I’ve shared it with. I, like you, appreciate the effect the songs have in teaching the children!
