Neptune and His Mermaids in Utah History

.

.

In 1911 an enormous outdoor pageant (it involved about 500 people) in Ogden, Utah, celebrated the development of Utah. This group shows Neptune and his mermaid retinue, and Ceres with her maidens, representing the waters covering the earth and the coming forth of the land at the time of Creation.

This scene, called the “Contest of Ceres and Neptune for Utah,” was followed by these:

Scene 2. Age of the Cliff Dwellers.
Scene 3. Coming of the Indians.
Scene 4. The Trail of the Trapper.
Scene 5. Coming of the Pioneers.
Scene 6. Dedication of the Land to Religion.
Scene 7. Arrival of the Hand Cart Company.
Scene 8. Birth of Irrigation.
Scene 9. Coming of the Troops.
.

.
Scene 10. Dawn of a New Star.
Scene 11. Utah’s Tomorrow.
.

.

The pageant concluded with children’s games and a picnic.
