I’m Going to Be a Scout
By Lula Greene Richards
I am going to be a Scout
As well as my “big” brothers.
I have learned what it’s about:
It is helping all the others.
It is aiding each good plan
Wherever you are present –
And helping all you can
To make the world more pleasant.
It is being brave and true
Even when you are frightened –
So that by what you do
Some burden may be lightened.
It is being fair and square
In speech as well as action –
Ready all gifts to share
For others’ satisfaction.
It is being ever kind
To please instead of bother –
And always quick to mind
Your mother and your father.
To help the right win out
And bring more love and beauty –
I am going to be a Scout
And do my honest duty.

As always, Ardis, your employment of irony is both delicate and deft.
