Sea Gull Soaring

Sea Gull Soaring

By Courtney E. Cottam

As effortless as a wind-tossed leaf
you soar and fall, then catch yourself,
As if afraid, in lighting, you may die;
then gently, like a vagrant snowflake,
Loosed too soon from a lowering cloud,
you drift toward earth with undulating rhythm.
One moment, hesitant, slow turning,
then gracefully you fan the sun to setting,
And rest on the edge of the burnished world.
