Substitute Teachers

“Elders Philip Dalby and Mack Tenney recently had the opportunity of speaking before a group of students in the high school at Wadena, Minnesota. The privilege seemed to be providential. They write as follows:”

Last Monday we visited the local superintendent of the high school with the idea in mind of getting permission to show one of our slides to a class there. he was somewhat skeptical because of the idea that it was a “lecture,” and, he explained, the schools aren’t permitted to have lectures by any ministers; however, while we were talking with him the teacher of the American History class came in and asked to be excused from her duties that period because of sickness. He granted her request and then turned to us asking if we would consent to talking to that class — 11th graders. Naturally we felt this was an answer to prayers, and readily consented. We took the entire period, and answered questions asked by principal and students. Of course many of their conceptions concerning the Mormons were fallacious, and we were grateful for the opportunity of being able to help clear up these false ideas.

Phil Dalby is, of course, the man who drew the Book of Mormon as a graphic novel.
