Quarterly Conference of the Bannock Stake of Zion
Held in Mound Valley, Idaho, 22-23 January 1899.

After the opening exercises Elder L.S. Pond, president of the Stake, congratulated the Saints on meeting in the second quarterly conference, and gave his report of the Stake. There has been, he said, peace and plenty throughout the Stake. I am not aware of any poor amongst us. There has been one new ward organized and another is about ready.

Elder Jos. W. McMurrin of the First Council of Seventies was the first speaker. He said he was pleased to listen to the report and glad to hear there were no poor in our midst. “I doubt,” said he, “whether such a condition could be found in any other part of the world. But do not think because you have no poor, that you are exempt from paying your offerings. I notice in looking over this congregation that it is made up of young and vigorous men and women, a foundation for a great Stake.”

Elder Ira Call said he was pleased with the good report of the Stake, but he thought there was still room for improvement. The Bishops should be sustained by the people. It is the duty of the teachers to put down all iniquity but of ourselves we are unable to cope with the adversary of all righteousness. We must rely upon the Lord.

Bishop W.M. Harris said the Savior in selecting His disciples chose the unlearned. he told the young men that if they were as faithful as Peter, they would be able to spread the truths of the Gospel, and advised all to keep the word of Wisdom.

Elder L.S. Pond said he was pleased with the remarks made and hoped the same spirit would continue with us.

Afternoon Meeting

Elder L. Andrus was the first speaker. He proved that the Gospel is a power for progress, and said if we live up to its teachings, we will become perfect.

Elder J.W. McMurrin was the next speaker. We are living in an age, he said, when the Lord has again spoken, from heaven. He proved this assertion by the Scriptures.

Elder D. Jensen spoke of the great latter-day work and bore his testimony that if any one in this Church does not have his prayers answered it is because he does not keep the commandments of God.

Elder E. Eldredge exhorted the young men to prepare themselves for the ministry.

Bishop P.J. Williams reported Hatch Ward. The Saints, he said, rejoice in the Gospel, and those that are called to office are active, all organizations are complete. The people are advancing temporally as well as spiritually.

Elder L.S. Pond said he had been well paid for attending this conference. His faith had been strengthened. He closed his remarks as follows: “Pay all your honest obligations; be truthful, virtuous and honest. Be careful to do the will of God.”

Conference then adjourned for three months.
