The title has nothing to do with the content, and actually right now I’m just typing words so that I can get past any blog feed’s replication of the first few lines of a post. Here’s some nonsense to reach that goal:
Do you realize that “monopoly” is typed with only the right hand? And that “Rewards are safe wages” calls for the fingers of the left hand in orderly succession? You type “Disney World” by alternating left and right hands. But now I suppose someone will point out that the spaces interfere with what I’ve just claimed. Live with it.
And what’s the difference between a cat and a comma? The cat has claws at the end of its paws; the comma is a pause at the end of a clause.
Okay, is it just us Keepa’ninnies who are sticking with this? Good.
I announced the winners of Keepa’s book giveaway quite a while ago, but only about half of the winners have written to me with their mailing addresses. I’m happy to send the books to the winners anyway, but now I suspect that some winners are not regular readers of Keepa, but were only attracted to the “giveaway” feature. They have not come back even to see if they won.
If you won a book in the giveaway but have not yet sent me your address, please do so by Monday evening (AEParshall at aol dot com). Any books that haven’t been claimed by Tuesday morning will go to somebody else, either someone who expressed interest in that book during the last giveaway, or as one of the prizes for the student reception at the Mormon History Association meeting in a few weeks.
Thank you to the many people (book winners, friends, and even readers I don’t know) who sent contributions through Keepa’s donation button. You’ve made it possible for me to mail all of these books without financial hardship.
As long as you are talking irrelevancies, I think I must have missed how and when followers of Keepa were named “Keepa’ninnies”, as opposed to something like “Keepapitchers”. Did you do a poll, a contest, or did the name come by Administrative fiat?
I think that’s entirely relevant, CS Eric!
Within a few months of Keepa’s launch, someone (I wish I could remember who) referred to him- or herself as a “ninny,” in the usual meaning of the word as someone who had accidentally done something foolish. That tickled a reader named Tatiana who melded it to the blog title to create “Keepapitchininny,” which term was used by one reader or another over the next months, until it was eventually shortened to “Keepa’ninny.” So it was one of those group efforts that grew over time, the way the best in-jokes do.
Silly people. These are books! BOOKS!
No kidding! BOOKS!!
Keepa’ ninny for life!
Guilty. I even sent money for postage and hosting fees, but never thought about the mailing address, it appears. So the Keepa’ninny title certainly applies to me in the etymological sense. Or to put it another way, I will plagiarize Mormon, and says “Fools mock, but they shall mourn.”
Watch your email for my mailing address.
Why does a title of “Posts with Irrelevant Titles” make me more likely to read the post?
Because you’re just that kind of gal, HokieKate. 😀
I should have titled it DON’T READ THIS POST.
