Pres. McKay Dedicates Oregon Chapel
NYSSA, Ore. – The Nyssa Stake was host to President David O. McKay of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Sunday.
The Church leader arrived in the stake Sunday morning to spend the day. He was met at the train by Stake President Arvel L. Child of Nyssa.
On Sunday afternoon President McKay dedicated the newly completed chapel of the Ontario Ward of the Nyssa Stake. He returned Sunday evening to Nyssa where he addressed a special conference of the young people of the stake. A youth chorus of 75 voices provided music for this session.
Attending this session were a majority of the young men and young women of the stake between the ages of 12 and 21 years. They were accompanied by their leaders from the wards of the stake.
Following this session President McKay entrained for Salt Lake City. It was estimated that approximately 1,800 people of the stake and their friends heard the church leader deliver his messages Sunday.
Thanks! It’s my Mom’s 80th Birthay on Friday and she is in the youth choir!! I was blessed in that chapel five years later.
I mean my name and blessing as a baby (or so they tell me). I’ve been “blessed” in that chapel many times since.
If I was met by someone named Arvel, I would feel welcomed too!
