Selfish Wish
By Dorothy J. Buchanan
I don’t know what I’d rather do
Than open up a book that’s new,
And smooth the pages one by one
Until the happy task is done.
I touch the cover tenderly –
All new books should belong to me.

Sending this to a few bibliophiles I know…
True. But old books have a special smell, look, and feel.
I’m trying to work up the same feelings for a new facebook post or YouTube video. Can’t do it.
I get excited over a new Studio C sketch, but it’s still not the same.

When I was growing up, one of the things we always knew would be under the Christmas tree for us was a new book. Now, I love watching my children and grandchildren reading books and purchasing books and checking out books from the library and loving books like I do.
