The building is still there. You can look it up on Google Streetview. (I don’t know what it’s used for now.)

I think not. Sadly, I arrived there as a missionary just a few years after the mission moved out of the Fifth Avenue building and into the building that now houses the temple.
Wow. I walked by that building just a week ago yesterday.
IIRC, it was originally a synagogue before the Church purchased it.
As for the old Eastern States Mission Home on Fifth Avenue, rumor has it that it included a valuable statue that the previous owners had left behind, and that the Church then passed on to the French Embassy. I don’t remember the details, except that it was worth quite a pretty penny. I’ve got to find the documentation on that one…
Also, the Fifth Avenue Mission Home was sold in order to pay (in part) for the construction of the building that now holds the Temple.
