1. SO I attended this Lecture last night. Ron Walker was great, his lecture was interesting, he interacted with the audience well, he was friendly and took questions and visited with people before and after the lecture. Elder Snow and Rick Turley were there and mingled as were a number of LDS historian types. Overall a great night. For me it was only slightly marred by one minor annoyance.

   As I was waiting for it to start I overheard part of a conversation between several individuals sitting a row or two behind me. They were discussing Leonard Arrington and his work. One of them made the comment, “Arrington was a good man, it is too bad that he could be such an ‘Anti-Mormon’ at times” (they were discussing his writings). I’m not sure if I find it sad or amusing that there are still Church members in this day and age that think that anything that smacks of scholarship or challenges myth is “Anti-Mormonism”.

3. Yeah, thanks for the report. Makes me wonder what those individuals were doing at such a lecture if they thought scholars/Arrington-types are biased against the Church. Huh.

4. andrew h, Thanks for the report. I’ll bet that people who make such comments have not read Arrington. One of the things that emerge from Arrington’s diaries is just what a true-blue, dyed-in-the-wool Church member he was.
