Song of the Twelve
Recorded in Minutes of
Surfleet Seas End Branch,
British Mission
They’ll see Joseph Smith and Hyrum,
With the Saints upon Mount Zion.
Singing praises to their maker,
All in peace and love together.
O how glorious!
We’ll see Brigham Young and Heber,
Drest in white with their redeemer.
Both received their ordination,
To be Rulers in His Kingdom.
O how glorious!
Willard Richards will look handsome,
With the Saints upon Mount Zion.
Orson Pratt and Brother Parley,
Will be in Celestial Glory.
O how glorious!
Orson Hyde and Brother Wilford,
Will be found among the favoured.
Brother Taylor and A. Lyman,
No good thing will Heaven deny them.
O how glorious!
George A. Smith and Brother Benson,
Will be crowned with joy in Heaven.
With the holy sons in Zion,
In His everlasting kingdom.
O how glorious!
We’ll see them who fought so boldly,
With the mobbers in Missouri.
They gain the victory forever,
Through the Spirit of their maker,
O how glorious!
We’ll have Twelve Apostles for to reach us,
In the Holy Church of Jesus.
And to guide us in His Kingdom,
Till we gain our own salvation.
O how glorious!
The ungodly will be weeping,
And with fear they will be wailing.
When they see the sons of freedom,
Crowned with glory on Mount Zion.
Sorrowful they’ll be!
But I will pray to the almighty,
For His spirit to be with me.
And His Angels for to guard me,
Till I gain Celestial Glory.
Glorious they’ll be!
(ca. 1853)
This is amazing Ardis! Nice find!
It’s interesting to see how they found words to rhyme with their last names. I’ve done some things like this for family reunions and things. I can’t make it be serious though. I wonder what Willard Richards thought about being the handsome one.
Wow. That’s something else. I wonder if it was a committee effort, or the work of a single author.
