Memo to Inventors

You’ve done yourself proud inventing noise-makers.
Exuberant society
Finds sirens, squawkers, poppers, graters,
And horns in great variety.
So now I think it would be nice –
And maybe profitable; please try it!
If you’d invent an efficient device
To turn out volumes of peace and quiet.
