1. Not knowing this Dewey Farnsworth, I went Googling him. Who knew? His book is still available at Amazon.com! (But apparently no missionary discount.)

2. I googled Farnsworth as well, and came up with a review by John L. Sorenson in BYU Studies of this reissued volume along with several other similar works, who takes a rather dim view of these. Hence the title of his review: “Instant Expertise on Book of Mormon Archeology.” I loved this quote, referring to our collective gullibility:

   Now if these tendencies are necessary accompaniments of the naivete of the meek, it is a small price to pay. Far better to associate with a people having enough faith left that they can be gulled than to endure the company of the permanently cynical who fill so much of the world. But coulden’t we find a compromise position in which the wisdom of the serpent protected us more often from the consequences of dovelike innocence?

   Interesting that the reprint sold for less ($3,95), thirty years later, than the original.

3. I had no idea Colonel Sanders was from Colombia.

4. I did some of the same googling before posting (and is Col. Sanders wearing a bow tie??). I thought this was smirk-worthy, and David and J. both clearly agree, but I realize at the moment how glad I am that kevinf made the need for eyerolling explicit for potential readers whose sense of humor isn’t quite as bizarre as mine.

5. “declared by scientific authorities of Washington, D.C.”

   Rather than say anything myself, I’ll just refer everyone back to read Kevin’s comment a second time. : )

6. This sparks a memory that my Grandma gave me a book like this when I was very young- about 1967? Wish I still had it.
