Even Mormons who live far from Salt Lake often check in with the Deseret News online, to read Emily Jensen and Nate Oman and various lesser mortals. In 1949, the News bought the inside front cover (with color!) of every issue of the Children’s Friend, touting its children’s features and working up its future audience.
